Futnani Chambers: An old building with a young heart!!

If you have been near Elite Cinema, you must have seen a Grand Old Building while going towards New Market... This is the Century Old "Futnani Chambers".


Placed in a strategic location, adjacent to the Calcutta Municipal Corporation Building and embraced by SN Banerjee Road, Rani Rashmoni Road and Corporation Place.


It houses the famous Biryani destination "Aminia". By the way, Aminia's Firni is the best in Kolkata. The Raunak hotel, that was once the well-known night club Golden Slipper, Calcutta’s most celebrated nightclub of the time, is here in this building.

The famous "Taj Mahal Pan Shop" that plays Rafi Sahab's songs whole day is also in this building.  I have also written a blog post on "Taj Mahal Pan Shop".

UPDATE : Now passengers have to pay whatever is displayed on the meter... No extra Addition or Multiplication ... :) From 1st November 2012 Government of West Bengal has increased taxi and bus fares in Kolkata (Calcutta), as a result people (Passengers in general) are quite confused as the taxi drivers are charging whatever they wish coz the meters are the same only the way to calculate the fare has changed. So just to clear this "air of confusion" I am putting up this post.

Bengali Online Newspapers Published from Bangladesh

After reading one of my earlier blog post on online Bengali newspapers (Published from Kolkata) many readers asked me to write a post on the online Bangla newspapers (epapers) published from Bangladesh. I fully agree and support their demand and think that everyone must get a chance to see and share the rich Bengali culture that is present both in India and Bangladesh. So here I am, with the ever-expanding list of Bangla Newspapers that are published in Bangladesh and are also available online. In Bangladesh the daily newspapers are published from Dhaka, as well as from major regional cities of Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Barisal. All daily newspapers are morning editions, there are no evening editions in Bangladesh. Some Newspapers have just portals... and some have epapers... so in this post have mentioned links to ePapers as well as News Portals. Online Bengali Newspapers - ePapers

In Delhi/Mumbai we get some leading Bengali news papers on the next day... This is because the papers have to travel this distance by Air. No one likes to read old news even if it is in Bangla. Thanks to Internet that has made it possible to read Bengali news papers online as soon as they are published. These Bengali news papers are in a way helpful to keep the Bengali alive in us. As we know Kolkata (Calcutta) is often referred to as the Cultural Capital of India, and many of these Newspapers Publish Bengali short stories, Poems, Articles etc. that nurture the Grey Matter in us. Some Newspapers have just portals... and some have epapers... so in this post I will first mention links to ePapers and then the links of News Portals.
