Kolkata's Chinese Breakfast
One of the best ways to start your day's food expedition is to have a slice of China in your breakfast... and for this what can be a better place than Kolkata's (Calcutta's) very own "China Town". It is a very interesting fact that Kolkata (Calcutta) is the only city in India that has a "China Town". The Chinese have settled in Kolkata as early as the 1780s, and since then they have played a significant role in defining Kolkata's (Calcutta's) cuisine.
Kolkata has mainly two China Towns where the Chinese are settled... one in the Tiretta bazar area, that is known as Old China Town, and another in Tangra, known as New China Town. The famous Chinese breakfast is available in both these places - Tiretta bazar and Tangra.
In Tangra the Chinese breakfast is served in the courtyard of the famous and only Chinese Kali temple in this area.
Tangra is near E.M. Bypass and to reach this place you can take a bus or taxi through Park circus and move ahead towards Science City. Some 1km before Science City take a left turn and enter China Town. You can also take shared autorickshaw from the auto stand (near B.R. Singh hospital) of Sealdah Station and get down at China para (China Town, Dhapa, Tengra) and then you can either take a rickshaw or walk for 10-15 minutes to reach the Chinese Kali temple.
On the way to the Kali temple you can see some of the popular Chinese restaurants of the area like Big Boss, Beijing, kim-ling, hot-wolk, Kafulok, Golden Empire, Geizing and so on.
In the courtyard of the Kali temple only five to six food vendors sell the Chinese breakfast. Here you get steaming yummy Chinese breakfast at an unbelievable price.
My favourite is the Pork Momo that is sold by a middle aged man.
The food here is really very tasty. You can also find some authentic Chinese Feng Shui products and wall decoration items.
Similar to Tiretta Bazar here also you can get Chicken Momos, Pork Momos, Sausages, Prawn chips, Tai Paos, shu mei, Fried dough sticks, Chicken Rolls etc.
Happy eating!!

Tiretta Bazaar's Chinese Breakfast
If you are a late riser then chances are that you may miss the Chinese street breakfast of tiretta bazaar coz it starts at around 6am and by the time clock strikes 8 everything is finished.
Tiretta bazaar is in the Chhatawala Gully just beside Poddar court near Lal Bazaar police headquarters. This place is easily accessable from Howrah, Sealdah, esplanade Babughat bus stand etc.
Around 6 am when many people are still deep in their sleep... Tiretta bazar full of people busy having Chinese breakfast and vendors selling chinese food items like Chicken Momos, Pork Momos, Shu Mei, Sausages, Prawn wafers, Tai Paos, Fried dough sticks, Chicken Rolls etc.
Here you can see many vendors preparing and selling these food items simultaneously. Many vendors even sell wallets, diaries etc. with the food items which I felt is really unique.
The place is clean as compared to Tangra. The quality of food is also good. In China town there are some non-Chinese vendors also who sell these delicacies with equally good taste.
Do remember to take home some Chicken Sausages and Prawn wafers/chips as a memorabilia.
