New Pre-Paid Taxi Rate (Fare) Chart From Howrah Junction in Kolkata (Calcutta)

Howrah Junction is one of the busiest Railway stations of Kolkata (Calcutta), or rather Eastern India. To reduce the Rush of the passengers, a "New Terminus" has been created in Howrah Junction. All the Trains of Eastern Railway arrive in and depart from the Old Terminus. And all the Trains of South-Eastern Railway arrive in and depart from the New Terminus. Both these Terminuses have their own respective "Pre-Paid Taxi Booths", though the Rate Chart is same for both these booths. These Pre-Paid Taxi Booths are run by Hoogly Nadi Jalpath Paribahan samity Ltd. Earlier These rates were written only in Bengali, then they put up the rate chart in English, though the size of that board was too small as seen in the image below.

Now since the new taxi fares are implemented in Kolkata and subsequently the pre paid taxi fares are also updated, so Howrah City Police has put up the new revised pre paid taxi fare chart. You can have a look on that chart below.

I have created a fresh table here with updated Pre-paid taxi fares effective from 1st November 2012. I searched the internet but couldn't find this rate chart anywhere else. So here it is.

There are four Pre-Paid Taxi booths in Howrah station that run round the clock (24 hours service). There is one "Meter Taxi" line also.
It is always advisable to avail the pre-paid taxi, still there are some precautions that you must take.

• Give the "pink" slip to the cab driver only after reaching your destination.
• Women travelling without men are considered by some local men to be, “loose and available” So if you reached Howrah late in the night it's better waiting in the waiting room or the "Rail Yatri Niwas" than taking a cab.
• Sometimes the cab drivers ask for extra money on top of the money that is already paid. Don't pay the extra money.
