One of the best ways to start your day's food expedition is to have a slice of China in your breakfast... and for this what can be a better place than Kolkata's (Calcutta's) very own "China Town". It is a very interesting fact that Kolkata (Calcutta) is the only city in India that has a "China Town". The Chinese have settled in Kolkata as early as the 1780s, and since then they have played a significant role in defining Kolkata's (Calcutta's) cuisine.

UPDATE : Now passengers have to pay whatever is displayed on the meter... No extra Addition or Multiplication ... :) From 1st November 2012 Government of West Bengal has increased taxi and bus fares in Kolkata (Calcutta), as a result people (Passengers in general) are quite confused as the taxi drivers are charging whatever they wish coz the meters are the same only the way to calculate the fare has changed. So just to clear this "air of confusion" I am putting up this post.

To reduce the Rush of the passengers, a "New Terminus" has been created in Howrah Junction. All the Trains of Eastern Railway arrive in and depart from the Old Terminus. And all the Trains of South-Eastern Railway arrive in and depart from the New Terminus. Both these Terminuses have their own respective "Pre-Paid Taxi Booths", though the Rate Chart is same for both these booths. For the past two three days I am visiting many durga puja pandals. I have seen many people carrying the Kolkata Durga puja map distributed by Kolkata police. The main disadvantage of the Kolkata Police puja map is that these maps are mainly for traffic advisory and not detailed as compared to the Google Maps. Their main aim is to show the traffic movements and blocked roads. Also, not all the popular pujas are mentioned in that map. I saw people struggling with the directions... the on-duty police and the volunteers who are managing the traffic on roads are not local people so they don't know which pandal is where... so this adds to the confusion. Nowadays many people carry high-end smart phones & tabs with them... a thought struck my mind that if there is a map that is created using Google maps and is accessible from these devices then that will be very useful. The sweets of Bengal are world famous... especially the Rossogolla. Whoever comes to Kolkata definitely keeps "Bengali Sweets" in his/her to do list. It is very hard to make a list of sweets shops of Kolkata (Calcutta) with rankings of any kind, because everyone makes something at it's best. Still I'll try to make a list of shops where we get best authentic Bengali sweets. These are mainly traditional Bengali sweet shops.
